The Fragile translated to the stage
Fragility
November 9, 1999 – July 9, 2000
Fragility turned The Fragile into a sequence of physical and visual environments. The first theater-scale production used gauze and suspended light, the North American arena version introduced vertical screens and Bill Viola imagery, and the final festival dates deliberately abandoned the complete system for shorter, more aggressive sets.

The Live Profile
Touring lineup
- Touring lineup: Trent Reznor, Robin Finck, Danny Lohner, Charlie Clouser, Jerome Dillon
- Performance model: A multi-instrumental five-piece with roles shifting between guitar, keyboards, bass, percussion, and vocals.
Stage and lighting
- Fragility v1.0 used flowing gauze, hanging chandelier-like pods, narrow tubes, and front projection during the quiet visual suite.
- Fragility v2.0 added three vertical LED screens, an opening scrim, and Bill Viola material for La Mer, The Great Below, and The Mark Has Been Made.
- Festival shows are an explicit production exception because the complete proprietary system did not travel into those configurations.
Setlist patterns
- Full-production shows opened with The New Flesh and Pinion into Somewhat Damaged.
- A visual middle act linked La Mer, The Great Below, and The Mark Has Been Made before the main set returned to greater physical force.
- Head Like a Hole usually closed the main set; The Day the World Went Away, rotating Fragile material, Starfuckers, Inc., and Hurt shaped the encore.
- Festival sets frequently opened with Head Like a Hole and omitted the slower visual suite.
Support acts and co-bills
- Atari Teenage Riot and Skingame supported Fragility v1.0.
- A Perfect Circle supported Fragility v2.0; the final dates are represented as festival-bill appearances rather than a single support relationship.
