And all that was

Keith Duemling and Tracy Thompson created SmashedUpSanity.com during the early years of independent music fan sites. It began as a Nine Inch Nails archive and expanded to cover Nothing Records and its artists. The site also published the fan-run magazine Sick Among The Pure.

Its articles, press releases, photographs, quotes, memorabilia records, and bootleg reviews came from fan submissions, mailing lists, message boards, personal websites, printed publications, and private collections. Pages were coded and uploaded by hand, and files were saved locally whenever possible.

That work kept material available after original pages, hosts, and domains disappeared. The surviving collection and the experience of maintaining it later helped shape And All That Could Have Been.

Its Place

SmashedUpSanity existed alongside peer sites such as The NIN Hotline, Painful Convictions, Burning Souls, TheFragile.com, and Seems Like Salvation. Those early fan sites preserved information and created their own atmosphere. SmashedUpSanity focused on saving writing, imagery, and history that official channels had left scattered.

Work connected to NothingRadio.net tied the site to the wider Nothing Records community and extended its coverage beyond Nine Inch Nails. The goal was straightforward: gather material before it disappeared and keep it available to other fans.

Its Distinctions

  • It evolved from a Nine Inch Nails fan site into a broader Nothing Records archive and sister site.
  • It carried Sick Among The Pure, a fan-driven online magazine with its own editorial identity.
  • It preserved fan-made reference material, including Pure As F**k, remembered as the first library of Nine Inch Nails-related quotes.
  • It housed an extensive memorabilia collection that carried the archive beyond news and photography.
  • It offered bootleg reviews that documented unofficial releases circulating through the fan community.
  • It maintained a substantial archive of articles, press releases, and images.

What Remains

And All That Could Have Been continues that work as a visual Nine Inch Nails archive. It brings together concert photography, live history, releases, collaborations, people, videos, and memorabilia that previously existed across separate collections.

This is an independent, noncommercial fan project. Material is preserved locally when possible, organized for browsing, and corrected when better information becomes available.

And all that could have been

This archive continues the work that began with SmashedUpSanity by collecting Nine Inch Nails material, documenting its context, and keeping it accessible. It preserves what was saved while making room for what is still being found and all that could be.

Intended Use

This independent fan archive is provided for educational and entertainment purposes.
