Television Documentary Score
The Vietnam War
United States releaseSeptember 15, 2017
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross composed this two-disc score for Ken Burns and Lynn Novick's ten-part documentary series. The music avoids conventional military gestures, relying instead on restrained electronics, sustained tones, percussion, and gradual movement to support testimony and historical footage.
The series also used earlier Nine Inch Nails and Reznor/Ross recordings, connecting the documentary to their existing catalog. The original score was written as a long-form accompaniment to interviews, archival footage, and historical narration.
