The Crow

United States releaseMarch 29, 1994

Nine Inch Nails contributed a studio recording of Joy Division's "Dead Souls" to the soundtrack for Alex Proyas's film The Crow. The performance translated the original song's stark post-punk pulse into the denser industrial sound surrounding The Downward Spiral era.

The album placed Nine Inch Nails alongside The Cure, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against the Machine, and other artists closely matched to the film's gothic atmosphere. Its chart success introduced the recording to listeners beyond the band's core audience, and "Dead Souls" later became a recurring live selection.
