Soul
United States release
December 18, 2020
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross composed the original score for Pixar's Soul, shaping the film's metaphysical spaces with soft electronics, glowing ambience, and finely detailed movement. Jon Batiste supplied the jazz compositions associated with life in New York.
The contrast between those musical worlds is central to the film's design, allowing abstract sound and live jazz to meet as the story moves between purpose and ordinary experience. The combined work won the Academy Award for Best Original Score.
