Soundtrack / Collaboration
Quake
Standalone reissue
September 16, 2020
Nine Inch Nails created the music and sound effects for id Software's Quake, originally released on June 22, 1996. The soundtrack replaces conventional action scoring with long dark-ambient spaces, metallic resonance, distant machinery, and sudden pressure.
For years the music existed primarily as audio tracks on the game CD-ROM. Its 2020 remaster and standalone vinyl and digital release formally separated the score from the game while confirming its place in the Nine Inch Nails catalog.
